Where to apply for driver’s license renewal
If you apply offline rather than online, you can do it at the National Driving Test Center or the Traffic Civil Service Office of the police station. Among the items to prepare, a medical certificate issued by a general medical institution (documentary signature required) or health checkup results are required. Please refer to the following because the renewal cycle for type 1/type 2 driver’s licenses is different.
Class 1 driver’s license
– After December 9, 2011, license holders and aptitude testers have a 10-year cycle
– For license holders and aptitude testers before December 8, 2011, a period of 7 years and 6 months (the period indicated on the license)
Class 2 driver’s license
– After December 9, 2011, license holders and license renewals are renewed every 10 years
– For license holders and license renewals prior to December 8, 2011, 9-year cycle and 6-month period (period indicated on the license)
※ Calculation of 1-year period: January 1st – December 31st of the year in which the 10th anniversary date from the date of passing the test or renewal belongs
※ After December 9, 2011, regardless of type 1 or type 2, those over 65 years of age should be treated every 5 years
※ After December 9, 2011, holders of a class 2 license over the age of 70 are obliged to take an aptitude test when renewing their license.
※ After 2019.01.01, 3-year cycle regardless of type 1 or type 2 for those aged 75 or older
